Did you know that in America, rollerskating was most popular, first between 1935 and the early 1960s and then in the 1970s, when polyurethane wheels were created and “Disco” oriented roller rinks were the rage? And then again in the 1990s when in-line outdoor roller skating renewed interest in this amazingly fun sport.
Roller skating may seem kind of retro, but it isn’t a thing of the past, says Jim McMahon, executive director of the Indianapolis-based Skating Association International. It all began with the perfection of the four-wheel roller skate in the post-Civil War period. Skating at this time was considered an upper class activity, complete with men in tuxedos and women in formal dresses. It wasn’t until the early 20th century when rollerskating became popular and accessible
Tarry Hall Roller Rink makes roller skating fun for the entire family and if you’re the type that would prefer not to skate you can rest comfortably while you watch your family and friends roll by as they enjoy the rush of rolling around the rink.
